The McMaster Institute for Research on Aging (MIRA) is proud to announce the recipients of over $640K in funding, including matched funds. These awards include eight Catalyst Grants and six postdoctoral fellowships, some of which are funded in partnership with other institutes and entities across McMaster.

Please read on to learn more about these deserving projects. Check back soon as this story will link to project pages that will develop with the research.

Catalyst Grants

Catalyst Grant funding is designed to stimulate new collaborations across campus and position teams to build larger research programs. Since MIRA began running the Catalyst Grant program in 2017, many large initiatives have emerged, attracting external grants and talent to McMaster.

This year’s Catalyst Grants are all led by early career researchers. MIRA collaborates with the Associate Deans of Research to identify promising new projects and allocate one grant per Faculty. In 2024, we received such outstanding submissions that we agreed to co-fund a second project in cooperation with the Engineering and Business Faculties.

Postdoctoral Fellows

The 2024 postdoctoral fellows include two funded by the Labarge Centre for Mobility in Aging and two funded in partnership with other institutes. Partnering to co-fund postdoctoral fellows with the IPRC and MDTRC has allowed us to expand our reach and further the shared goals of our institutes. As with the Catalyst Grants, these postdoctoral fellowships are interdisciplinary, requiring a supervisory team spanning three different Faculties to mentor the trainee and develop an interdisciplinary research plan.
