MIRA | envisAGE Beachhead

Since April 2025, MIRA has served as an envisAGE Beachhead, partnering with innovators to evaluate emerging AgeTech solutions in real-world environments that support older adults and caregivers.

About envisAGE

envisAGE is a large-scale pan-Canadian five-year initiative that brings together teams to integrate and evaluate technologies that address the challenges of aging and build Canadian leadership in the AgeTech market.

Over a five-year period, envisAGE will invest $47 million from Canadas Strategic Innovation Fund to support up to 100 collaborative AgeTech projects that address the needs of older Canadians, caregivers, communities and organizations.

MIRA’s Role as an envisAGE Beachhead

The McMaster Institute for Research on Aging (MIRA) joined envisAGE as a Beachhead in April 2025. Beachheads are academic partners involved in the evaluation of innovative AgeTech solutions in real-world settings (termed “Community Labs” in envisAGE projects).

MIRA and its researchers contribute expertise in measurement, evaluation, and implementation science to strengthen small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) supported through envisAGE collaborative projects. Through this unique partnership, MIRA helps assess the effectiveness and usability of emerging technologies within Community Labs—settings that reflect the realities of aging, including long-term care facilities, retirement communities, and home environments. By bringing together researchers, industry partners, and community organizations, MIRA advances knowledge mobilization and accelerates the development of technologies that enhance the independence, inclusion, and quality of life of older adults and caregivers.

How to get involved

Researchers, companies and community labs who wish to explore opportunities to get involved in this funding opportunity are invited to reach out to Audrey Patocs, Research Manager at patocsae@mcmaster.ca.

envisAGE’s annual Call for Innovations is launched in the fall of each year. Potential participants are encouraged to reach out at any time to start developing their proposal and build their team.
