Geraldina Polanco

Overview

Dr. Geraldina Polanco is a Assistant Professor in the Department of Sociology at McMaster University and a global ethnographer whose research explores migration, work , and globalization, with a focus on how labour regimes and migration policies perpetuate inequality and shape belonging. Dr. Polanco’s work has examined temporary migrant worker programs in the service sector, the reintegration of Salvadoran deportees, and the vulnerabilities of aging migrants. She is the Principal Investigator on a SSHRC Insight Development Grant, investigating the intersection of labour and migration policies with immigration controls, and was awarded McMaster’s Global Scholar-in-Community Fellowship for a community-led study on female deportees in rural El Salvador.
