The McMaster Institute for Research on Aging (MIRA) is launching a webinar series that will feature new, mid-career and established researchers in aging from across all six Faculties.

The webinars will provide a forum for discussion around aging research. Some examples of topics include design thinking strategies for research in aging, mobility and social isolation in older adults, and how to use big data to predict health decline and disability.

Webinars will be held four times per year for one hour each. A question and answer period will be provided at the end of each session.

Details for MIRA’s first presentation are as follows:

Date: March 22, 2018
Time: 12 p.m. (ET)
Topic: How to Apply Design Thinking to Research in Aging, presented by Dr. Robert Fleisig, Associate Professor at the Walter G. School of Engineering Practice and Technology (W Booth School) in the Faculty of Engineering.

Design thinking is a strategic method that incorporates empathy and experimentation to arrive at innovation. Its human-centred approach relies on evidence and interaction with end-users to determine their wants and needs. This method has historically been used by designers, but it can also be used in research to pinpoint real opportunities and address legitimate problems. In this webinar, Robert Fleisig will describe and illustrate how the design thinking methodology can be used for research in aging.

All Webinars are broadcast using WebEx. They will be recorded and made available on MIRA’s website and YouTube channel.
