Co-Investigators: Denise Geiskkovitch, Faculty of Engineering and Shane Saunderson, Degroote School of Business

Summary

Designed to reduce loneliness and enhance emotional support, Sundae Doll interacts through natural conversation, storytelling, verbal cognitive games, and multilingual communication, while providing caregivers with real-time emotional insights and care alerts to track signs of pain, anxiety, depression and suicidal ideation.
This study will lay the groundwork for integrating intelligent companion dolls into care settings, offering a blueprint for implementation in long-term care, assisted living, and aging-in-place models. Findings will highlight best practices, ethical considerations, and practical challenges of adopting this technology in older adult care.
