Overview

Dr. Marie-Lee Yous (BScN, MSc, PhD, RN) is an Assistant Professor in the School of Nursing at McMaster University. She was born and raised in Hamilton. She is a first-generation Canadian. Her research journey is inspired by her many years of experience as a Registered Nurse supporting people living with dementia and their families on a Long-Term Care unit. She is a volunteer with her local Alzheimer Society. She is passionate about pursuing research on enhancing the quality of life of people living with dementia and their family and friends through meaningful activities. There is a need to advance research on dementia due to a growing aging population. Her projects have been funded through the Alzheimer Society of Canada, the Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR), the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council (SSHRC), and the Canadian Nurses Foundation. She has research interests in co-creating and implementing caregiver interventions for persons living with dementia, non-pharmacological approaches, and dementia education. She has collaborated on national and international projects with researchers from McMaster University, Western University, University of Waterloo, University of British Columbia, Maastricht University (the Netherlands), and University College Cork (Ireland).
