Marek Smieja

Overview

Dr. Marek Smieja is a Professor in the Department of Pathology & Molecular Medicine at McMaster University. His research focuses on the diagnosis of respiratory and gastrointestinal infections in the role of chronic respiratory infections and cardiovascular disease. Dr. Smieja is involved in the development and evaluation of respiratory diagnostic tests for SARS-Coronavirus, influenza, and rhinovirus, developing tests for respiratory and gastrointestinal infections in his lab for Canada and Botswana. His HIV studies have examined the interaction with HIV infection and cardiovascular disease with current studies focusing on smoking cessation, inflammation, and dental health.
