Overview

Ashwini Namasivayam-MacDonald is an Associate Professor in the School of Rehabilitation Science at McMaster University and a clinically trained speech-language pathologist. Her research focuses on swallowing (dysphagia) in aging populations, with the goal of improving quality of life, reducing caregiver burden, advancing health equity, and preventing frailty. She leads interdisciplinary, community-engaged projects that blend science with lived experience — always ensuring that the voices of patients and caregivers are at the center of her work. Ashwini is passionate about building research that not only informs practice but also respects the realities of those it serves. She is a dedicated educator and mentor, known for creating inclusive, supportive spaces for trainees.
