Dr. Patricia Hewston, recipient of the Labarge Post-Doctoral Fellowship in Mobility, was recently profiled by Harvard Business School Online, outlining her experience with the Leadership Principles program.

In 2018, the McMaster Institute for Research on Aging (MIRA) and the Labarge Centre for Mobility in Aging (LCMA) held a competition to identify the inaugural Labarge Post-Doctoral Fellow in Mobility. The successful candidate was Dr. Patricia Hewston, a post-doctoral fellow at the GERAS Centre for Aging Research in the Department of Medicine at McMaster University.

Patricia’s research focuses on improving the lives of older adults with complex care needs. The vision for her project with MIRA/LCMA is to explore the complex relationship between dance, gait, and falls-risk by developing a technology that measures gait called GAITRite. â€‹

As part of her MIRA-supported professional development, Patricia took the Leadership Principles certificate program with Harvard Business School Online.

“Leadership is an essential part of my role,” said Hewston. “With professional development funding from the Labarge Post-Doctoral Fellowship for Mobility in Aging, I was drawn to Harvard Business School Online’s Leadership Principles certificate program to learn from top business leaders and develop the essential skills to drive team performance and advance our clinical research projects.”

The program is designed to help new leaders learn to apply their leadership style, lead high-performing teams and become stronger and more versatile leaders.
