The McMaster Institute for Research on Aging (MIRA) would like to congratulate Laura Harrington, PhD, MBA, who received a President’s Award on Tuesday for her exceptional contributions to McMaster University.
Harrington is managing director of the newly formed MIRA and its affiliated Labarge Centre for Mobility in Aging (LCMIA), both of which aim to generate, facilitate and disseminate cross-Faculty research on aging that can make a real impact on Canada’s aging population.
​​Her McMaster career began in 2004 when she joined the Department of Chemistry as a research scientist. Since then, she has served as a laboratory manager for the Valliant Research Group the project director for Forward with Integrity, a strategic plan meant to guide the direction of McMaster University, and managing director of the Labarge Optimal Aging Initiative, a research initiative aimed at keeping older adults healthy and active as long as possible.
Harrington’s contributions to the mission of the University are extensive, and include overseeing the launch of the student Learning Portfolio; facilitating the establishment of the Network of Community-Campus Partnerships; organizing McMaster’s Canadian Medical Hall of Fame induction ceremony; and working diligently with on-and-off campus partners to position McMaster as a leading Canadian institution in the field of aging.
“Laura’s knack for forming partnerships and her commitment to support McMaster as a leader in aging research is truly remarkable,” said Parminder Raina, scientific director of MIRA and a professor in the Department of Health Research Methods, Evidence and Impact at McMaster. “We are thrilled that she has been recognized for her commitment to the University’s values and vision.” ​
