Last week, the MIRA Trainee Network hosted a summer edition of the popular #TraineeTalk series at McMaster Innovation Park (MIP). The event brought together over 20 trainees, including undergraduates, graduates, and post-doctoral fellows from various McMaster Faculties, to present their research and projects related to aging.
Trainee Talks provided a space for trainees to connect, network and exchange valuable feedback and insights on their research, promoting a collaborative and approachable environment for trainees to connect with their peers and develop a community supporting aging research at McMaster.
“It was a really welcoming environment, I enjoyed listening to the diverse topics and conversations”
The event featured three speakers from the aging research community: Raghad (Rae) Elgamal, a PhD Candidate from the Degroote School of Business in the Department of Information Systems who presented research on bridging the digital divide and enhancing digital literacy for older adults. Lisandra Almeida de Oliveria, a PhD Candidate from the Faculty of Health Sciences in the School of Rehabilitation Science presented graded activity for lower back pain, and Alexandra Mayhew, Postdoctoral fellow from the Faculty of Health Sciences in the Department of Health Research Methods, Evidence and Impact, shared insights on the association between different types of body fat and type 2 diabetes, using data from the Canadian Longitudinal Study on Aging (CLSA).
