Project on chronic back pain receives new MIRA-IPRC catalyst grant

April 30, 2019 – An interdisciplinary project aimed at developing a pre-surgery rehabilitation and education program for older adults with lumbar spinal stenosis receives the first cross-institute catalyst grant from the McMaster Institute for Research on Aging and the Michael G. McMaster students help people with Parkinson’s build a community through choral singing

April 8, 2019 – Once a week, the Hamilton Parkinson’s Chorus meets on the McMaster campus to sing, laugh and build community. Started in September 2018 by Arts & Science student Zachary Levine, the choir is a chance for people with Parkinson’s and their spouses to experience the fun of group singing. It’s also therapeutic.

March 18, 2019 – Over the last 20 years, James Dunn’s research has revealed clear relationships between inequality in cities and people’s health. Working with communities in southern Ontario and beyond, he has explored how housing, economic inequality and attributes of neighbourhoods affect residents’ mental and physical health.

Hospital-to-home transition care may not help patients with heart failure

MIRA Trainee Network: MIRA & Labarge Research Day 2018

February 21, 2019 – On December 7, 2018, MIRA, along with the Labarge Centre for Mobility in Aging and the Labarge Optimal Aging Initiative, hosted the annual MIRA & Labarge Research Day. McMaster researchers and trainees in aging from various disciplines gathered at McMaster Innovation Park to share their work. This event required trainees to translate their research in a language that is both understandable and digestible to non-specialists.
