The McMaster Institute for Research on Aging (MIRA) was pleased to host it’s first in-person event since 2020 on the evening of May 26 at the David Braley Health Sciences Centre. Inclusive Spaces for Aging Well, a free interdisciplinary public talk, featured eight-minute TED-style presentations by eight engaging speakers from McMaster, the University of Birmingham and the community. Before the talk, MIRA hosted a research and community fair to showcase exciting aging work happening at McMaster and around Hamilton.
Held in celebration of the Birmingham 2022 Queen’s Baton Relay passing through Hamilton, t[he public symposium shared western and Indigenous perspectives on aging and discussed the challenges, opportunities and evidence around implementing inclusive spaces for aging well. Special thanks to speakers Robin Mazumder, Stu Phillips, Brenda Vrkljan, Jill Axisa, Leigh Breen, Lorrie Gallant, Sophie Geffros and Ned Jenkinson, who each provided their unique perspectives and expertise.
