MIRA member Dr. Pamela Baxter spoke with CHCH TV about her and her research team’s Canada-wide study of family caregivers supporting loved ones in long-term care.
“Family caregivers have unique needs when their loved ones are transferred to long-term care. They feel hopeless. They feel loneliness and loss and grief and guilt. There’s a perception in the community that the person is safe, so the caregiver doesn’t need the same level of social support. But family caregivers said they have unique needs. This study provides some support for those caregivers,” says Baxter.
