Meridith Griffin, MIRA member and assistant professor in the Department of Health, Aging and Society at McMaster University was featured in a recent Hamilton Spectator article about the benefits of starting a new activity as an adult.
“My research shows benefits in self-confidence and in expanding your social circle. Overall, these are linked to improvement in health and well-being,” said Griffin, adding that taking that first step can be scary.
She says many adults are held back by memories of being picked last in gym class and are afraid to fail. But when they find something they love, it is a very positive experience.
