Sarah Brophy

Overview

Dr. Sarah Brophy is a Professor in Department of English & Cultural Studies in the Faculty of Humanities at McMaster University. Her research interests include auto/biography, contemporary literatures, critical disability studies, health humanities, and visual culture and media studies, with a focus on cultural production by writers and artists working in Turtle Island/ North America the British Isles. Dr. Brophy examines literary and artistic portrayals of aging across various forms and media, including graphic narrative, film and photography, essay, installation art, letters, memoirs, novels. These themes have long been integral to her research on health, disability, and embodiment, as has the work of senior writers and visual artists themselves.
