Laura Harrington, who has a background both as a research scientist and senior administrator at McMaster, has been appointed assistant vice-president of the Faculty of Health Sciences at McMaster University, effective Jan. 1, 2019. She has resigned from her position as managing director of the McMaster Institute for Research on Aging (MIRA).
“It has been a wonderful experience working with Parminder and the MIRA team to support aging resesarch at McMaster,” she said. “I will always be a champion for aging research at the University, and I look forward to watching the growing momentum from a different viewpoint.”
Harrington has been the managing director of MIRA since June 2016. In her new role, she will be the most senior administrator of FHS, and a key liaison between the University and the Faculty on administrative issues. She will lead the finance, human resources, capital, space, facilities and risk management portfolios, and she will also have oversight of the central Faculty research institutes.
“I am very pleased Laura is taking this new position,” said Paul O’Byrne, dean and vice-president of the Faculty of Health Sciences. “She is widely respected within the University community with demonstrated skills as an effective communicator, leader of complex projects, and an ability to drive strategic results.”
MIRA’s scientific director, Parminder Raina, ​​has announced the appointment of Ine Wauben to the role of Managing Director. Ine has been a managing director of the Canadian Longitudinal Study on Aging (CLSA) since 2011, which she will continue to oversee, and brings with her many years of experience in the strategic development of research programs.
She has played a key role in positioning the CLSA as a world class resource to advance aging research in Canada and worldwide. Prior to joining the CLSA team in September 2011, Ine worked as Business Development Manager, Life Sciences, at McMaster University. She has also held senior positions at Adiga Life Sciences Inc. and the Scientific Research and Experimental Development Program of the Federal Government. Ine holds a PhD in medical sciences from McMaster University.
“I am thrilled to join the ​MIRA team,” said Wauben. “This transition will provide me with opportunities to apply the ​knowledge and experience I have gained in working with researchers in aging across the CLSA and bring it back to the University.”
