Byron Spencer is Professor Emeritus in the Department of Economics. He is McMaster’s longest serving faculty member, beginning his career in the Economics Department 51 years ago. As one of Canada’s leading economic demographers, Spencer authored, or contributed to 48 books, well over 100 research articles and working papers, and has attracted millions of dollars of research funding to support innovative, interdisciplinary research. Byron currently works with and administers the Statistics Canada Research Data Centre (RDC) at McMaster University as a Professor Emeritus. The RDC has been working with the Canadian Longitudinal Study on Aging (CLSA) to host its data, and Byron hopes to develop collaborative policy research programs that allow for cross-disciplinary knowledge exchange.
